Skateboards
Skateboards have experienced a wave of popularity since
their introduction in the early ‘60s. After nearly disappearing,
in the early ‘70s, a small group of skaters in Southern California
(collectively called the Z Boys) brought the sport back into the limelight
with their amazing tricks performed in empty swimming pools. Since then,
skateboarding has been one of the fastest growing sports in the USA.
All skateboards consist of certain parts, including:
• A deck
• Wheels
• Trucks (connects the wheels to the deck)
• Grip tape
• Risers (optional)
Skateboards are excellent sources of exercises for children, teenagers
and adults alike. However, it’s always recommended to use safety
gear while skateboarding; helmets are invaluable in preventing dangerous
head injuries. Knee-pads, elbow-pads and wrist guards will also keep
riders safe.
