Skateboards, Complete, and Decks

Skateboards

Skateboarding is more popular today than at any time during its history. Millions of people, young and old, obsessively spend their free time riding their boards, trying to perfect the latest tricks. Half pipes and skate parks have appeared in backyards and public parks all over America, testifying to the increasing popularity of skateboarding.

Berserkskateboards.com is devoted to the novice and expert skater alike. Our site is designed to provide information about all things relating to skateboarding. From decks and wheels to shoes and protective gear, we try to provide the general public with a basic understanding of the modern world of skateboard equipment.

The first skateboards were simple, flat planks of wood attached to a set of rollerskate wheels. While they were effective for cruising, they didn’t lend themselves to performing that many tricks. Modern skate decks come in a variety of sizes and styles, each with intended functions.

The skate decks used for street and park styles tend to be somewhat short and narrow. This makes the boards much lighter and more maneuverable, making them ideal for freestyle and aerial tricks. These boards are also curved at either end, which makes it easier to perform the famed “ollie”; the basis for most skateboarding stunts.

Longboards, on the other hand, are strictly designed for cruising. These tend to be completely flat and are a great deal longer and wider than their freestyle cousins. They also tend to utilize wider trucks (axles) and larger wheels, which provide a much more stable riding surface. The longer board also acts like a shock absorber, making them ride much more smoothly.

Most skateboard decks use similar equipment, but with variations to accommodate the differing styles of riding. Skateboard wheels, for example, are all generally made from a hard rubber material. Longboards tend to use larger diameter, softer wheels that make cruising much more comfortable. However, this same type of set-up on smaller freestyle skate decks does not work as well, which is why they tend to use much smaller, harder wheels.

Skateboard bearings also differ, depending on the riding style. Skaters that primarily ride half pipes and skate parks tend to use a slower bearing. This helps maintain control by limiting the amount of speed that can be gained. However, for the longboarder, faster bearings are often preferable, as they enable the skater to roll for longer periods of time without the need to push.

The skate shop is your one stop headquarters for all your skating needs. They can usually provide all of your equipment needs, as well as skateboard clothing and skate shoes. They can also be a great place to get a complete skateboard, custom built for your specific requirements. Online skate shops can be great resources for cheap skateboards, skateboard decks, and a host of other hard to find skateboard equipment.
